xorg doesn't support dynamic reconfiguration at the moment, although
you can get it to work in some hackish ways using xrandr in some
drivers using mergedfb (only sis and radeon atm).  Another option is
to run two X servers, one dualhead and the other single and switch by
changing VTs.
