TV Out on a Radeon IGP 320M

Hi,

I have a laptop (HP ze4430us) with a Radeon IGP 320M video card.
Originally, with Microsoft Windows, I could span the desktop across the
built-in LCD screen and the S-Video out. This allowed me to continue
using my desktop while playing a video on a TV.

Currently, however, I'm using GNU/Linux (Ubuntu Breezy) and want to
reproduce this setup. About a year ago (with a different distribution),
I was able to use the 'atitvout' tool to switch the display output from
the LCD to the S-Video out port, but I've been unsuccessful reproducing
even this recently. (I'm sure it doesn't help that I've never reliably
figured out how to make my laptop realize an S-Video cable is attached.)

I have only a brief, high-level understanding of how the major
components of an X.Org system work together, but I'm willing to learn
(as long as someone's willing to teach or at least aid in pointing out
useful documentation) anything necessary to contribute.

So where should I start?

Thanks.
