Xvfb: -O2 causes a crash

I am trying to debug a crashing Xvfb of X.org v. 6.8.2 on GNU/Linux 
2.6.11 with GCC 3.4 and on AIX 5.2 with the IBM VisualAge C++ 
Professional / C for AIX Compiler, Version 6.

I noticed that when I compile X.org on GNU/Linux in a regular way, 
Xvfb crashes, while it works fine when I make sure the -O2 flag is not 
used.  The same problem exists on AIX with the -O flag, therefore I 
don't think it's a compiler bug.  The full bug report is here:

Does anyone guess what might be wrong?
