I remember, a while back (before XFree86 4.4 came out) the mga driver
was buggy in render acceleration. But I thought that was fixed a long
time ago.

What do you mean be "fb"? Maybe "fbdev" (the driver)? If so, the problem
must be somewhere in the generic RENDER implementation, not the
driver-side acceleration (which isn't being used if running the fbdev
driver).
