Error while compiling fontconfig

Hello guys,

I'm using SuSE Linux 8.0 and I'm trying to compile fontconfig, which is 
needed for installing the latest version of the GTK.

But during compiling I get the following error message:

fcfreetype.c: 960: warning: #warning "No FT_Get_Next_Char"
fcfreetype.c: in function 'FcFreeTypeQuery':
fcfreetype.c: 279: 'PS_FontInfoRec' undeclared [...]
fcfreetype.c: 279: parse error before 'psfontinfo'
fcfreetype.c: 279: 'psfontinfo' undeclared

As I found out with Google, this error message seems to occur quite 
often when someone tries to compile some software that uses FreeType but 
I couldn't find an acceptable solution to solve the problem.

Any hints?
