Question on Radeon 9000 / 3D+SMP mode

Dear Listmembers,
I am using a SMP motherboard "Tyan Tiger 2460" with a Radeon 9000 (Sapphire)
graphics card. OS: SuSE 9.3 "vanilla", xorg 6.8.2.
When activating 3D accelleration (i. e. load "dri") I face the problem that my
system is crashing after about 1 to 1.5 days. There are *no* entries in the
logs. The screen is freezing, the mouse does not react any more, nor does the
keyboard.
SSH'ing into the machine is sometimes possible. Then I see X eating up 99% of
the ressources (top). If I am lucky, I can shut down.
I have been looking into the sources, and found that the SuSE sources seem to
be more recent than the latest weekly snapshots from xorg, what confuses me
somewhat (only with regard to the radeon drivers).
Does anyone have a suggestion what to do besides turning 3D off (always an
option?).
I send my xorg.conf with this email, hope that's not too much noise.
I added 3 entries to the "Device" section that have no effect at all:
Option "AGPMode" "4"
Option "BusType" "AGP"
Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE, CRT"
Thank you very much for any inputs,
take care
