X11R6.8.2 build error

that's what i've been doing, created a new build directory, just to be
safe, lndir xc from there, and make World...but same error.
just to be sure, I'd checked out
cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs at cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co -rXORG-6_8_2 xc
what cvs command to run now to update? I'd applied the patch previously
using patch.
