X Server doesn't start any more after Ubuntu (5.04) installed a X Server update.

Today ubuntu 5.04 installed a big update - a X server update
Everthing was fine after the update until I reboot my PC..
then i got a strange looking message (Ü and other chars were around the message)
The dialog told me in my nativ language german, that:
"The X-Server(your graphic surface) can't be startet.
May be he is wrong adjusted." The next incomplete sentence ask me if I want to do something with the output. As a normal user i cant choose "ja" (englisch: yes) or "nein" (no), but as a root I get the following information:
