Updating XTerm and TWM?

I much prefer XTerm over the 'advanced' terminals provided by Gnome and 
KDE, etc. However, XTerm needs a few updates to improve compatibility.

I also often use TWM when I need graphics but don't want the bloated 
overhead of KDE/Gnome. But TWM could also use a few updates. Are other 
peopl for/against updating Xorg's twm to add compatibility for things 
like color icon pixmaps and some NET_WM support?
