How do I get i845G TV output at 1024x768 with Xorg 7.1?

Using Xorg 7.1 on a i845G based system I can only get 800x600 or 640x480
mode on the Composite PAL output. Further the display is only filling about
80% of the width of the TV output. Using the VIA driver on a CLE266 I can
use 1024x768.

How can I get 1024x768 with the i810 driver on the i845G chip?

If the answer is no for the Xorg 7.1 i810 driver will this be possible
with the modesetting version of the Intel driver?
