Yes, according to Ben that's what should happen. It seems that a check
is missing for what sort of bios it is (xorg only checks signature, but
not type, radeonfb checks signature and type). That said, I'm wondering
why the bios check failed with xorg 6.8.2, as it didn't test for type
neither. Maybe it failed to map the rom completely. Do you have a full
log available from xorg 6.8.2?

If I understand that correctly, the driver can't use _anything_ it reads
from the bios (clock info, connector info,...)? A true wonder it almost
works then I guess with all those bogus values...

It looks like adding a check for the bios type is the right thing to do.
I'd hope it's not possible that it might fail wrongly on some cards?

For producing proper patches, I need to install git first (later this

The attached patch might fix things. Completely untested, I think it
should apply to pretty much any version of radeon_bios.c you can find...

Ok, it looks like this wasn't an issue.

I'm not exactly sure if reading wrong bios stuff could cause issues even
with UseFBDev, but there is some hope you won't get corruption when not
using UseFBDev (if it would work at all...). No promises, though, I'm a
bit lost what could cause that corruption, but indeed the broken bios
stuff sounds a bit like an unlikely reason. But you never know, and the
bios bug needs fixing anyway.
