Kernel support for graphics cards

Seriously, did anyone, ever, actually propose that?

There seems to be a lot of confusion around this matter. Most people for
example seem to believe that GGI/KGI wanted to do this, which is simply
wrong. While the kernel component has become even more minimal over the
years, it was *never* intended to put complete graphics drivers, with
abstract operations and 3D and everything, into the kernel.

I wonder what makes people believe that. Maybe it's the name.
