7.1 release status and 7.2 plans

7.1 is basically done at this point. The only code change left, as far as I'm
concerned, is the DriverRec ABI fix Andy pointed out, and I'm just verifying
it on different endiannesses of LP64 before I commit that. (Yes, this means
LP64 people who've built drivers relative to HEAD or 1.1 branch will need to
recompile. Life is hard, sorry.) The release won't actually go out until
probably Monday, due to press release timing and (hopefully) doc updates, but
excluding the server and the badged tarballs, everything else is pretty much
in place.

So, woo.

Several drivers have had minor updates since the last time I touched them. I
encourage people to make additional stable releases within the next week or
so, but I don't anticipate changing any more drivers for 7.1 proper.

The release process and schedule worked pretty well this time around, so
here's a proposed schedule for 7.2:

Branch nomination for 7.2: September 15, 2006
Branch selection for 7.2: September 29, 2006
7.2RC1: October 6, 2006
7.2RC2: October 27, 2006
7.2RC3: November 10, 2006
7.2 Release: November 17, 2006

This is just a straight 26-week interval from 7.1, and I believe it manages to
avoid major holidays, but I can probably slide it plus or minus a month if
needed (I mean, 7.0 was a five month cycle, so it's not that big a deal).
Let me know how this meshes with everyone's plans; in particular, I'd like to
see the git cabal come up with solid dates for moving things over, preferably
before OLS.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this release happen, you guys are
rockstars. Extra special shout-outs to Erik Andren for doing heroic amounts
of triage work in bugzilla, and to Coverity for the fantastic bug scanner
coverage.
