X11R6.8

I wrote a remote control application that allows a remote host to take
control of the local pointer and keyboard input. It does this by
grabbing the pointer an keyboard on the remote host relaying the events
to the local X server via an extension. It replaces the remote cursor
with a red box as an indicator that they are in control mode. This
application has been solid for years.

Recently, a user replaced his Sun workstations with Red Hat Linux Linux
workstations and has been encountering problems where after a while the
cursor reverts to normal, the grab is broken and the events stop being
sent. Are there some changes in X11R6.8 that would cause this or allow
an application to do this?
