Regarding the URL above, my setup is slightly back-rev, but definitely
7.1.0-X. Platform is similar: PWS 433au (Miata). Works fine with
tga2 card and associated driver. Badly broken with Radeon 7500 under
7.0.X: locks up machine solid to where I have to hit the reset switch
to recover. Using fbdev driver vs. ati driver used to be only slightly
better as far as being able to still use the machine after firing up
the X server. Have not screwed up my courage enough to retry the 7500
with 7.1.X, but will have to eventually if I want more than 8-bit
color depth :-).

Please search for my prior posts in debian-alpha for more info.

I'm willing to help as time permits, which means people shouldn't ask
me to try a gazillion permutations of kernel+packages. I'm thinking
my first step is to go ahead and retry the 7500 with both fbdev and
ati to see if the situation has improved with 7.1 relative to 7.0.
However, let me repeat that I *do* have a working 7.1 setup on an Alpha
with a TGA2 card. This is with all 2.6 kernels up to and including
2.6.19-rc3. If you need specific package versions, let me know the
packages of interest.
