Compiz on Intel GMA X3000

Not sure if this belongs here or on the compiz ML, but here goes...

I upgraded my desktop box with a new motherboard featuring an Intel G965
Express (GMA X3000) chipset on it. I am using X.org 7.1.1 with AIGLX,
and I cannot get Compiz running on it. When I start it, I just see
outlines of my windows and panels with a brown (?) background where my
wallpaper should be. I can click on things (for example to turn Metacity
back on) but cannot see anything except solid squares for windows.

DRI seems to be working fine, I can run glxgears (even fullscreen!) and
WW2D (free/libre Google Earth clone in Java) works fine.

I have tried both version 1.6.5 and git head of the i810 driver. I am
currently compiling xserver git head to try.

Is this expected to be working yet or should I wait for driver and/or
application updates? Or is the problem on this end? ;)
