xdm remember previous user

hello,

I use the xdm as displaymanager and love it because it is highly
customizable. well, but there is one thing I can not control.

I want xdm to remember the previous username and display it at next
logon, placing the cursor directly in the password field.

probably there is a Xresource to set or something like this.
Any Ideas?

If not, where would be the place to store the last username, when I have
to patch xdm code to get this new functionalityß
