The Gnome control center has a (somewhat hacky) client-side solution to
this problem. Thinking along those lines, a Keyboard shortcut to
explicitly warp the pointer to the middle of the screen might be an
adequate solution to the problem of "lost cursor" that doesn't require
any server support.
