Dell Latitiude C800 - problems using dock video

Hi,
I have been struggling to get an external monitor to work with a Latitude C800
laptop. The LCD screen works fine with X when the system is undocked. When
the system is docked, the LCD is off (obviously) and the monitor is plugged
into the back of the docking station. This is when I can't get X to work.
The video card is an ATI Rage 128 Mobility M4. I let X do the configuration
and then tweaked it a little (eg. "Display" "CRT"). I've included my config
and log file.
And the odd part is I'm able to use the external monitor fine when I boot up
Suse 10.1 running X 6.9 and Suse 9.2 (6.8).
The external monitor is a Sun 21" CRT.
