If you are running a relatively normal distro it should have oprofile
packages...

oprofile --no-vmlinux
oprofile --start

then when ready to test do
oprofile --reset
<do scrolling in firefox for a few seconds>
oprofile --dump
opreport -l

see what lib or function is on top of the list... either a Mesa or X
function :-)
