As you can see, extracting the modeline from the BIOS is not an exact
science...

Eric suggested a few plans today for dealing with these cases; the most
promising is to read the LVDS mode out of the hardware when the server
starts up; if the panel is currently active, we can extract precisely
the information we need directly from the registers. Of course, we'll
lose if you start with a VGA connection.

The other alternative is to see if the table was just scrambled in some
easily-detected and repaired manner; there's already a kludge in the
driver for some common cases.
