local/remote how to detect?

Completely unreliable - one could imagine a simple system with more
than 10 virtual terminals running X, or Xvnc running on :0.   And
if you ever want to support sites with Sun Ray terminals, they have
X servers running locally on the server machine with display numbers
running into the 100's.
