i915 limited to 1280x1280? (muli display question)

Hi,

I try to get a second display working on the VGA output with xrandr, but
I only get a clone. To be able to park windows on second display, I
would like to create a screen0 of 1280x2080, but can't. Xrandr reports
that the limit is 1280x1280.

I did the following after plugging VGA in:
remy at ReboliLaptop ~ $ xrandr --output VGA --auto
remy at ReboliLaptop ~ $ xrandr --output VGA --above LVDS
xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1280 (desired size 1280x1568)

Xorg.conf is enclosed.
What are my options?

I use xrandr-1.2 with intel-2.0 drivers and xserver-1.3.0.0 on gentoo.
