True, It sould be (1xxxxxx / 100000) % 100.

The problem with using %k is that during the hour after midnight you
will have the same problem. The hour will be zero and the number will
be interpreted as an octal number again. There may be another simple
way to solve it but %k is still wrong for times in the hour after
midnight.
