R500 initial driver release announcement

Hello,
   I downloaded the git repo for this. Added my PCI ids, 71C6,71E6, 
(with and without) the patch by Alexander Larsson. I don't get a visual. 
I do get screen artifacts as if it is initializing itself, but then 
nothing. The machine not hung, as I can login remotely, or ctrl-alt-del 
will reboot. However I loose my screens, can't ctrl-Fn to get the 
console screens. I've attached my x server log with the shadow buffer 
portion integrated. I saw something about still needing fglrx? I'd like 
to help. I am an experienced programmer, though never touched kernels, 
drivers or the like. Let me know how to help out.
