No, that's unfortunately still true. That's a future solution :-).

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but this is how normal mergedfb
clone mode works. Both heads get programmed completely independant (they
don't need to have the same resolution neither, though that wouldn't
really be "clone" mode in that case...). Such a clone setup has a
limitation with overlay for instance (only on one output), and atitvout
probably doesn't work with that.
As for blowing up panels - I'd hope not but you never know. If the
driver is configured for a crt, I'd think it disables the digital output.
