installing Xorg in debian

I'm installing Debian in my computer and I'm not being able to configure X

During the installation process I received a message saying that It wasn't
able to Install the desktop environment

II tried to install Xorg and Gnome following these instructions :

edit the sources.list :
nano /etc/apt/sources.list

add these lines

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free

type in the command
apt-get update

type in
apt-get install xserver-xorg-core xorg

apt-get install gdm

apt-get install gnome

After all these steps I reboot the system and it tries to load the
environment

It's when I receive a error warning

When i run the starx command I receive another error :

Fatal Server Error: failed to initialize core devices
XIO: fatal error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" ...

I have no idea how solving this problem
