If I start with 2.1.99 the display becomes partially corrupted (gtk
doesn't render fonts at all and themes only partially).

If I replace the driver with 2.1.0 and fire up X, it works fine. It
works fine as well if I start X once with 2.1.0, then kill it, replace
the driver with 2.1.99 and fire up X again.

attached are these three logs, all were made is that order without a
restart in between:
xorg-intel-2.1.99: X stared with 2.1.99 (=corrupted screen)
xorg-intel-2.1.0: X stared with 2.1.0 (=works)
xorg-intel-2.1.0-2.1.99: X stared with 2.1.99 again (=works)
