Fix for xorg-x11-drv-trident-1.2.3-4?

I'm running FC7 on a Toshiba Tecra M1, which has a cyberbladeXP4m32 (rev 
145), if my Xorg.0.log is to be trusted.

Anyway, the screen comes up either black with vertical green or red 
bars, or else when white across the top half and black on the bottom, or 
else it does a funky psychedelic thing that looks someone like watching 
crystals form under polarized light...

When I try to use the "vesa" drivers, it works but only at 800x600.  If 
I run the resolution higher, then the driver crashes:

Looking on the web, this is an old issue that first cropped up with FC2.  I'm surprised that 4+ years, I'm still seeing it.

Lots of questions on the issue, but I couldn't find a clear fix for it.

Any old-timers that remember what the solution was?
