cntl alt f1 . N problem

Hi,

I am using a basic stripped linux os, just kernel with libc, shell and 
some other utilities and X.

Using the 1.4 xorg server I had this behaviour:

1) cntl alt f1 worked fine (switch to the first vt) only after a user 
successfully logged in (-query host). Using X without -query
I was unable to switch to the vt

2) num lock, caps lock leds does not power on the led light.

Following an hint on irc, I got xorg-server-1.4.0.90:

1) led light working fine now

2) I am not able to switch vt at all.

So do you have any hint to log/debug this thing, or any clue at all?
