Possible bug in kubuntu or fedora version of X?

Greetings;

One of the oddities that has been bugging me for a while is that I cannot
ssh -Y into my workshop box and run emc to carve some virtual air, since the
mill's psu is not turned on when I do that.

What it does is start normally, allowing me to select the profile
(stepper_inch) I want to run, the splash screen comes up and 3 secs later the
axis window is drawn but not completely filled in, leaving a spot of the
splash image showing through the axis window.

But, at that point, X is totally frozen on this box, and my only recourse is
the hardware reset button, and after the reboot, another ssh session to log
into the kubuntu box and reboot it in order to remove any stale locks else I
cannot repeat the experiment.

Yesterday, I had some time so I logged into it, and since you'd announced
2.2.3, I fired up adept with a sudo, gave it my passwd and away it went,
working totally normal, so at least one app can export its xwindows to this
machine without error, so I updated emc to 2.2.3 and about 50 other apps that
were overdue, and carefully not upgrading the kernel.

Was this something that got fixed in 2.2.3, or do I have an X incompatibility
between kubuntu & fedora versions of X?
