Unfortunately it does not work.
I see that the keyboard is influenced by the fdi file, because the
layout is no more it, but is us.
But the touchpad is exactly the same, and the options, such as
SHMConfig, are not applied. Maybe theres something wrong with the
fdi...
Thanks!

DRI2 will have to be disabled by default for Xserver 1.5 as libdrm 2.3.1
doesn't have the drmBO functionality.

No, and I swear I merged this patch when I shoved all the Debian/Ubuntu
stuff upstream in something like 2005 ...

Cheers,

Hi,
Yes, I was expecting around 50% or so. If this is tested and working
fine for you, I'm perfectly happy for you to recommend this to people
who need it, but I'm definitely not merging it. In theory, xkbcomp
should just be xkbcomp(), which hands us back the XkbDescRec it
generates while parsing anyway.

I smashed this together last year and it was phenomenally ugly, but then
I decided to give my laptop (as well as my sunglasses, earphones,
camera, cash, etc) away to some people who kindly let themselves into
our house, and I really don't want to be doing it twice. But it's high
on my todo list, so let's see what these holidays produce.

FWIW, xkbcomp is getting rewritten at some stage as well. I'm willing
to believe that alone will cut a huge swathe of time out: that code is
worse, both in design and implementation, than anything else in XKB.

Cheers,
Daniel

Hi,

Since kdOffscreenMarkUsed()'d callers are gone, I think this is the
right idea, and it fixes the build:

if it's 1.4 or above it's most likely hotplugged through evdev.
just check the log files, it should tell you on reconnect.

I don't know why high level fails in rendering now, with some HD
(720p, 1080i) clips I tried, first 'I' frame picture is already corrupt
in those larger size, Y component seems right but UV is totally wrong,
although the render pattern (you can set INTEL_XVMC_DUMP to get
'intel_xvmc_dump' file on rendering details) is identical in main level.
I'm seeking ways to clarify this problem.

this isn't really related to the kernel. what happens is that the device gets
a read error and the synaptics driver shuts down (IIRC). when the new device
is created by the kernel, HAL sends a message to the X server that the new
device is available. By default this device is then added with the evdev
driver, because that is what the default fdi file states and hence what HAL
tells X to do.

so even if it is the same device file every time, evdev wins. Unless you
change your settings to add different drivers (see Steven's email).

Cheers,
  Peter

how about this one?

In master, checkCoreInputDevices was only called in configImpliedLayout (was
removed ages ago). This patch applies your changes and resurrects checkInput.
AllowEmptyInput is enabled if AutoAddDevices and AutoEnableDevices is enabled,
otherwise it's disabled.

I'm not able to cat the resource files (MEM or IO) on my 2.6.24 system
here. read() gives EIO. I can mmap the MEM resource files but not the
IO resource files (EINVAL, as noted).

So I think we should mmap the memory regions, and do ins and outs on
the IO regions (after iopl(3)).

Something like this maybe:

int pci_device_bar_read(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, void *data, pciaddr_t
offset, pciaddr_t size, pciaddr_t *bytes_read);
int pci_device_bar_read_u8(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, uint8_t *data,
pciaddr_t offset);
int pci_device_bar_read_u16(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, uint16_t *data,
pciaddr_t offset);
int pci_device_bar_read_u32(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, uint32_t *data,
pciaddr_t offset);

int pci_device_bar_write(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, const void *data,
pciaddr_t offset, pciaddr_t size, pciaddr_t *bytes_written);
int pci_device_bar_write_u8(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, uint8_t data,
pciaddr_t offset);
int pci_device_bar_write_u16(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, uint16_t data,
pciaddr_t offset);
int pci_device_bar_write_u32(struct pci_device *dev, int bar, uint32_t data,
pciaddr_t offset);

Modeled on the pci_device_cfg_* functions, obviously, just adding the
BAR index.

Internally it'd check to see if it's a MEM or IO BAR. For MEM it'd mmap
(if not done already) and memcpy. For IO it'd iopl and then do ins and
outs, ignoring the resource file.

Seem reasonable?

Ahh crap. Git server + faily recent ati (6.8.191) does not exhibit the
behaviour.

Well, I meant DVI in a rush of believing DVI was LVDS-based. It
frequently switches off and on backlight, plus small visible tearings
all along. Very seldom, also noise came up.
I had this in varying degrees, more with my old LCD, less with my new,
but 6.3 to 6.8 were definetely useable (about once a week it came back.
After a mode-switch or two it was fixed). Windows never exposed
comparable problems (except for the noise).

But 6.9 + 1.4.2 was worst yet. Impossible to use.

If the git-is-fixed thing is unlikely, sure. I think I filed one a few
years ago though :)

Regards,

Simon
