definitions please

I have been trying to understand code which uses the terms following, but unless
I can put some picture to it, it's terribly difficult to understand.

The words are "Pointer Feedback class", "Focus class", and "proximity" classes.
 I don't need long theses on this stuff, just long enough so that I understand
what the heck they're referring to.
