The "configure" script of xserver-1.4.99.905 confuses me. Building the server 
fails when no openssl is available. But the configure run does not complain 
about it.

"configure" checks for "openssl" between "checking for XSERVERLIBS... yes" 
and "checking if SVR4 needs to be defined... no". But why it fails silently?
"config.log" at this point states:
