Hello,
recently I've experience a problem with my i855GM graphics card -
when clicking on the roll-down menu e.g. in Iceape and/or Firefox
and not selecting anything (e.g. clicking outside of the rolled-down
menu), the menu rolls back up as it should, but the respective area does
not get refreshed, i.e. the picture did not re-render. It only did
re-render when I moved the window a bit....
This feature exists since the version 2.2.1-1 of
xserver-xorg-video-intel. Since that time I've upgraded to the packages:
ii xserver-xorg 1:7.3+10
ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20080517-1
ii xserver-xorg-dev 2:1.4.1~git20080517-1
ii xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:1.2.0-1
ii xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.2.2-3
ii xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.2.3-2
ii xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 0.14.7~git20070706-2
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.3.1-1
but the problem still persisted. The log-file is attached
(Xorg.log.newest). I even tried to compile the driver from the git
version (2.6.2008), but again with the same result.
In the end I tried to downgrade to:
ii xserver-xorg 1:7.2-5
ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12lenny2
ii xserver-xorg-dev 2:1.4.1~git20080517-1
ii xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:1.1.5-3
ii xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.2.0-1+1.2.1
ii xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.2.2-1
ii xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 0.14.7~git20070517-2
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.0-2
and the problem disappeared !! Unfortunately I did not find any clue in
the log file (Xorg.log.old_ok - see attachment), except of the fact that
the older version used XAA, whereas the newest one uses EXA...
So, apparently something has changed in the driver between 2.1.0-2 and
2.2.1-1 Maybe just some defaults ? If so, do I need an extra settings
in xorg.conf (attached) ??
DRM, agppart and direct rendering work in both old and new versions:
[ipnp-n19] ~ > dmesg | grep drm
[drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20060119 on minor 0
[drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20060119 on minor 1
[ipnp-n19] ~ > dmesg | grep agp
Linux agpgart interface v0.102 (c) Dave Jones
agpgart: Detected an Intel 855 Chipset.
agpgart: Detected 892K stolen memory.
agpgart: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xf0000000
[ipnp-n19] ~ > glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 852GM/855GM 20061017 x86/MMX/SSE2
Thanks a lot for any hint,
best regards
Tomas
