> PenMount Driver Supports the Latest Linux Operating System
>
> At present, there are some latest Notebook products using Linux as the default operating system in the market. Some of the primary advantages are that there are no licensing fees for Linux system and the new version of Linux is able to provide a user-friendly operation. The latest products such as ASUS Eee PC and HP Mini-Note are pre-installed with Linux as the default OS. We believe this type of products will continue to grow as there will be more Notebook and desktop system choosing Linux OS in the future. Moreover, many peripheral devices, like PenMount also provide drivers to support the latest Linux OS.

> The latest Linux release for the first half year of 2008 is kernels 2.6.24 and 2.6.25. For examples, Ubuntu 8.04, Mandriva 2008.1 and Slackware 12.1 use 2.6.24, while Fedora 9 and openSUSE11.0 use 2.6.25. These Linux operating systems are able to manage the input devices systematically and support hot-plug feature for USB devices and SATA hard disk. It can provide 3D effect under the latest X Window application. In Ubunta 8.04, the installation can be set-up easily and user may install directly in the Microsoft Window platform. This enables the user who is familiar with Windows OS originally to adapt the Linux OS quickly. Ubuntu 8.04 also provides a three year service and support thus encouraging enterprise user to change to Linux.

> Most of the updated Linux kernel release are much more user friendly on device control. The USB HID Device Manager Program can detect hot-plug and able to make classification on the device type, therefore, when under the X Window it is able to load the correct driver for plug in device. But this USD HID device detection feature is not perfect, it will classify PenMount device as a mouse device by mistake. Thus, the PenMount device operates incorrectly by behaving like a mouse’s relative coordination method when under X Window.
>
> For Linux kernel to detect PenMount correctly when installing the PenMount 6000 and 5000 series USB interface, the easiest way is changing the mouse settings in X window configuration file (xorg.conf). This is to ensure the default mouse driver will not control the plug-in PenMount device. Please read the ‘readme file’ and follow the instructions described before installing the PenMount driver.
