I have at least one user with a regression here from 1.99.2. It seems to
break PS2 mice:

Details here: I can submit to b.fd.o if you need me to, but as this is a
fairly active phase of development I figure I may not need to do so
(unless poked!).
I don't see any relevant commits since 1.99.4 that would fix this but I
can patch our package so our test user can try it if you think it will
make a difference.
If necessary I can try and ask the user to try and work out what commit
broke it since 1.99.2...
