Mesa, DRI framework questions..

I am compiling the mesa subtree that i got from
git.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/mesa. It is failing in glu
directory complaining

Unknown type of argument: ../../lib/libGLU.*

It is odd that when i git-cloned, a few of them like dri2proto and glproto
did not come through. I had to
manually do it. Is that right ? Now i am building individual sub modules and
that's when i get the above
error.
