I think the best that could happen is to have someone (krh?) write
some compat code to use Mesa 7.0.x. Brian had said that he had no
intention of releasing 7.1 anytime soon, and it's not really fair to
force his hand on it if it's not ready. That's part of the reason I
made this patch series: try to detect what version of mesa the user
has and then build the code that works for it. Obviously, this only
affects the first part of that proposition.
