HAL and hotplugging

Just kidding. Would you be so kind to make sure I get notified when 
you're done? (I'm fighting with config issues ever since, see 
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8583)
A HAL-based approach would be very nice. I'll be OL some time, so it's 
easy to miss that..
