geode driver - ddc module

I been having some trouble with getting x running. (LX800 processor
with a VGA output) The server worked for a while, but now it keeps
hanging. I swear I didn't change anything :) It now hangs on loading
the ddc module. So I put Option "NoDDC" in the xorg.conf, and it
seems to work now. But now I can't make x change into any of the
screen resolutions I need (or had when it used to work). It stays at
800x600 60Hz. I don't know much about what the DDC module did, but
not having it seems to rule out changing screen resolutions?
(**) GEODE(0): Option "NoDDC"
(II) GEODE(0): Monitor0: Using default hsync range of 31.50-37.90 kHz
(II) GEODE(0): Monitor0: Using default vrefresh range of 50.00-70.00 Hz
(II) GEODE(0): Clock range: 25.18 to 229.50 MHz
(II) GEODE(0): Not using mode "1024x768_70" (hsync out of range)
I setup up the mode for 1024x768_70 manually - and it used to work. I
can't find any documentation on the xorg wiki for any option to force
it?
Any help would be appreciated.
