Using mkfontdir to add fonts

Hey there(again), I have read up a bit on mkfontdir and I tried again,
this time I executed:-
mkfontdir -e /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/encodings/
-e /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/encodings/large/
-- /usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/misc
and this time the encodings.dir file was created properly. But
unfortunately still no fonts.dir file :(. Is the command right or is it
something I'm doing wrong(again)?
