System freeze - is X the reason?

Alex,

I currently cannot reproduce the problem :-(( , well it is also :-)) .

I am now with Xorg.conf without any of your proposed amendments, AGP 8x in BIOS as well as AGP FastWrite enabled. On top, compositor is enabled as well.
Graphic speed seems quite ok for such old and lean system.

However, when ever a problem comes up I will try to apply your proposed changes.

Do you know any stress test to crash Xorg in case there is something wrong or broken? Just to force the error?

Thanks so far.

Best regards
Jürgen
