thnx that fixed it...

i had drm-git installed which is a checkout of
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm (so the DRM kernel modules)
i removed it... didn't see why i could possibly still need it :) i'm
assuming that the DRM modules in the kernel are the way to go these
days...
