ATI Radeon X1650 should be quite widely available still. It's R500, so
very finely supported/accelerated in both 2D and 3D under the radeon
driver plus stable Mesa 7.2.

You might be also able to find X1950 which is somewhat faster, but
mostly I'm seeing new X1650:s on sale.
