why keymapping can not refresh?

Hi all,
my application has two process, I execute "xmodmap -e "keycode 255 = a"" in the first process then in another process I use XKeycodeToKeysym(display, 255, 0) to get the keysymbol, but it reutrns 0. why keymapping can not refresh? how can I let the
keymapping refresh?
