Input transformations: Compiz

I was looking at a way to do input transformation at the window manager
level and I came across this thread -

Have there been any modifications to David's approach/XServer patch?
I was actually looking into an approach suggested in same thread by Felix -
a WM-only approach which has its advantages. Though he does mention an
obstacle - Client pointer grabs are unavailable - not sure what that means -
does this approach require anything beyond what XGrabPointer/button can do?
