Synaptics acceleration support

Hey all,

Is there any reason besides supporting older servers for the synaptics 
driver to have its own acceleration model? Is there a schedule for 
removing this functionality. It seems quite out of place to implement 
such a thing in a driver and if I'm not mistaken, the server's new 
predictable pointer acceleration infrastructure should be more than 
powerful enough to account for the qualities of the touchpad.

Also, is there a reason why the acceleration scheme isn't modifiable at 
runtime? It may or may not be useful but it doesn't seem like it would 
be too difficult to implement. Am I wrong? If not, I could potentially 
take a stab at it.
