Nouveau driver with Xorg 7.3

Hi,

A few times ago I did ask on this mailing list about a possible support
of XVideo on G90 chips with xf86-video-nv, the answer was that is wasn't
in the scope of that driver, but... the nouveau driver is actually
working pretty well (as Ben Skeggs told me) on G90 (for my needs, of
course).

I just need a working XRandr and XVideo (fast 2D is optional, for games
like Wormux that I don't play so often). The problem is that I'm running
Debian Lenny which is shipped with a 7.3 version of Xorg so Nouveau
complain and stop compiling because it wants a 7.4 or later Xorg server.

So I would like to know if it is really completely impossible to get
Nouveau running with that xorg server, can't we disable some functions
or sth like that ? I don't know what's the level of dependencies of
Nouveau to the Xorg 7.4 functionalities...
