Running that command once I'm logged into gnome restored the functionality!
$ setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp
I added it to my ~/.xinitrc under my exec gnome-session line but it didn't take effect. Can you recommend an easy method to have this auto-run when gdm starts?
